EDGEMONT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER September 2020 Dear Edgemont Families, Thank you for such a wonderful start to our school year! The love and support we have felt from our community...
Dear Edgemont Families,
Welcome to October! October has always been one of my favorite months because it always feels like Fall has come and this is definitely one of my favorite seasons, especially here in Utah Valley. I was up at Daniel’s Summit and Strawberry Reservoir last week and the colors of the leaves were stunning! If you haven’t gone up to see the Fall colors yet, take your family for a drive up the canyon to see them. They are beautiful.
We are now in our second week of phase 2 and it has been so good to have all of our Edgemont students back together again in school. We have completed our beginning of year assessments and are now moving forward with teaching and learning. While in Phase 2 your children will receive in person instruction from 8:40-1:40 Monday-Thursday, and then will have online learning assignments to complete while they are at home in the afternoon and on Fridays. Thank you for supporting your children in completing their online assignments. This helps our students and teachers to keep the learning moving forward and progressing.
SOAR-ing at Edgemont
This year we have implemented Edgemont SOAR expectations for behavior throughout the school. You may hear your child tell you about the SOAR posters they see throughout the school. These expectations help all of us together keep the school a safe and fun environment for all students to learn in. As we see children following these expectations, they may receive a SOAR card from their teacher or other employee in the building. If your child receives one of these, they will bring home a copy to share with you. Celebrate this success with them. They will also put a copy of the card in a drawing that we do each week for a fun reward.
Halloween at Edgemont for 2020
This year while our school is in Phase 2, we will not be able to have a Halloween parade. Students will be able to wear or bring their costumes to school on Thursday, October 29. Please be sure the costume doesn’t interfere with sitting at a desk or playing at recess and remember no gore or overly scary costumes. Also no costume masks and the regular face masks we’ve been wearing all year are still required, so get creative and have them match your costume! Teachers will be doing Halloween related activities in their classrooms that day. We won’t be able to have parent volunteers this year to help with the Halloween activities. If you are asked to send in treats, please make sure they are store bought and individually wrapped. No other treats will be allowed. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe during this time.
Parent Teacher Conferences – November 4-6
Even though it’s a month away, we wanted to let you know the Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held online through zoom this year. Watch for more information coming to the school and your child’s teacher within the next few weeks.
Thank you to our AWESOME Edgemont Community for supporting us in the FUNd Run at Home Olympics! We know all the money you helped raise will greatly benefit our students and teachers. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! On another note, if you’ve ever thought about being a room mom this may be your year! We still need fifteen (15!) positions filled. You can see which teachers need help on this sign up genius: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C084FAAAF2CA1FC1-room.
