New Faculty and Staff for the 2022-2023 School Year

We want to introduce some of our new staff members for this school year.  We’re excited to have them as part of our Edgemont team this school year.

Assistant Principal – Des Olsen

Hi, my name is Des Olsen and I am so excited to join the Edgemont community as Assistant Principal! I am from Provo and received my education from the wonderful teachers in Provo School District. I earned my Bachelor’s degree from BYU and a Master’s in Education Administration from SUU. Over the years I have enjoyed working as a kindergarten teacher, grant coordinator, and instructional facilitator. My husband and I have 2 daughters and a dog. I love to be outdoors, travel and spend time with people. I look forward to getting to know you all!

Social Worker – Vicky Shoemaker

My name is Vicky and I am honored to be joining the Edgemont community. I have been a social worker for over 20 years with a focus in mental health. I grew up in Holladay, Utah and earned my Bachelor’s degree at the University of Utah. I earned my Master’s degree in social work at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. I enjoyed exploring the lakes in Minnesota but missed the mountains and returned to Utah. My husband and I have a blended family of 5 sons and 2 grandsons. We also have a dog and a cat who are best friends. In my free time I love road trips and sightseeing, walks in the mountains and spending time with family and friends. I’m also a fan of reading, watching movies and listening to podcasts.

School Psychologist- Kathy Donahey

I am working at Edgemont this year as the school psychologist and I am excited to be here! My job is to support your student’s success in any way they need and help make the school a better place. I am currently finishing up my studies at BYU and love spending time outside or trying new recipes!

School Nurse – Emily Finch

I was born and raised in Elkridge Utah. I now live in Springville with my husband and 3 boys. I have been a nurse for 11 years. I worked in pediatrics and mother/baby at Timpanogos Hospital before coming to school nursing 2 years ago. I enjoy reading, skiing and snowboarding with my family, and watching my boys play soccer. I’m excited to be a part of Edgemont Elementary!

Health Clerk – Debbie Wiedmer

​​My name is Debbie Weidmer. My husband and I have 10 kids and 12 grandkids. I love camping, cleaning and organizing, hanging out with family and cheering for the underdog. I grew up in Northern California near Lake Tahoe and once lived 18 months in France and Belgium. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health from UVU. I’m a firm believer in the power of mindfulness….a great coloring book and colored pencils make a bad day good and a good day great!

Receptionist – Alyssa Johnson

My name is Alyssa Johnson. I got married to my best friend Tanner at the beginning of 2022 and I am absolutely loving my newlywed life. My husband and I love to travel, play games, and spend time with family. I graduated earlier this year from BYU-Idaho with a bachelor’s degree in Social Work and love to be around children. I’m happiest when I am outside, whether playing pickleball, boating, swimming, or just laying in the sun. I’m outgoing, cheerful, and love to meet new people, so be sure to stop by and introduce yourself when you see me in the office!

Kindergarten – Serena Snyder

My name is Serena Snyder and I am so excited to be joining the Edgemont community! I grew up in Lehi and love having my family close by. I love traveling, watching sports, and spending time with my two nephews. This upcoming year will be my 7th year teaching. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Special Education from Arizona State University. I also recently completed my Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Gifted Education from Arizona State University. I love helping students grow and find joy in learning. I can’t wait for this upcoming school year, it’s going to be amazing!

1st Grade STEAM Class – Lauren Reed

My name is Lauren Reed. I am so excited to be at Edgemont Elementary this year. This will be my 4th year teaching 1st grade and I absolutely love it! A little about me is that I am from Cache Valley Utah, I love to grow and arrange flowers, and my favorite thing to do is play music! I can’t wait to meet you!

1st Grade French DLI Class – Amélie Massé-Flageul

I am from France and have been a teacher for 16 years with various experiences in different levels of elementary school and in specialized education. I graduated in teaching French as a second language and have welcomed many foreign children in my 5th-grade class for the last 8 years. I have also developed the teaching of English through other subjects in France. This year I am looking forward to teaching 1st grade at Edgemont Elementary School in Utah!

4th Grade STEAM  Class – Susan Diamond

I have lived in Utah and Virginia. I taught students in preschool and several elementary grades! My favorite vacation spot is Hawaii. I love reading, collecting children’s books, food, and creating ways to make learning exciting!

5th Grade English DLI Class – Maryann Phillips

My name is Maryann Phillips. I am from Spokane, Washington. I have a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). I have been teaching English for four years and am very excited to start teaching elementary school.

5th Grade STEAM Class – Nicole Sellers

Hello! My name is Nicole Sellers and I am so excited to be teaching at Edgemont this year! I feel like I’m coming back home, I grew up in Provo School District and graduated from UVU. I’ve been working as a reading aide in the district for the last year, and I’ve been doing all kinds of work with kids for the last 4 years. I love hiking, pickleball, exploring new places, curling up with a good book, and challenging anyone who thinks they know more about Harry Potter than me. I’m looking forward to meeting my students and their families this fall!

Special Ed – Michaela Swanson

Hi, my name is Michaela Swanson. I am from Beaver County, Utah and I recently graduated from Brigham Young University in December with a bachelor’s in Special Education. I have been working with the school district since January and I was also given the privilege to do my student teaching at Edgemont. I love teaching and I am excited to learn and SOAR with my students at Edgemont this year. Go Eagles!!

Special Ed Aide- Brenda Hales

I am originally from Canada and love to go there to visit. I graduated from BYU in Community Health Education many years ago. I am married and have 3 sons and 1 daughter. I enjoy the outdoors, especially camping, water-skiing, mountain biking and hiking. I worked for the last 5 years as an aid for Adapted PE throughout PSD.

Space Lab – Annie Chase

I’ve lived in Arizona, Hawaii, Mexico, Chicago, Peru, Michigan, and Washington DC, but now call Provo home. While in Chicago, I worked for years at the Chicago History Museum helping researchers of all ages and managing a huge collection of decades and centuries-old manuscripts. In the last few years, I’ve led STEAM activity and craft classes for elementary-age kids.

PE  – Annie Lewis

My name is Mrs. Annie Lewis! I was born and raised in the small town of Brigham City, UT. I recently got married to my husband Tysen and we love to hammock, make yummy food together, and go on walks together! Basketball, volleyball, and pickleball are my go-to sports, and I’m always down to go get a Diet Coke! I love kids and being active. I can’t wait to be Edgemont’s new PE teacher!!

Custodial – Debbie Walker

I am Debbie Walker. I grew up on the West side of Provo and went to Provo High School. After, I went to Snow College and received a degree in Home and Family Studies. After I graduated, I came back home to sweet Provo and eventually became Assistant 3 which was full-time at Centennial Middle School. As much as I loved working with the staff and teachers at Centennial, I decided to apply for Edgemont as it opened up. When I was called that I got the job I was ecstatic. I was able to have new learning opportunities and create relationships with more people! As a person outside of school and work, I enjoy reading and love writing even more! I find it a passion of mine. Having any chance to write makes me who I am. With things I enjoy, I love hanging out with my friends and family any chance I get. I think having strong relationships with the people around you is the most important thing in life.

Asistente del Director – Des Olsen

Hola, mi nombre es Des Olsen y estoy muy emocionado de unirme a la comunidad de Edgemont como Asistente del Director. Soy de Provo y recibí mi educación de los maravillosos maestros del Distrito Escolar de Provo. Obtuve mi licenciatura en BYU y una maestría en administración de la educación en SUU. A lo largo de los años he disfrutado trabajando como maestra de jardín de infantes, coordinadora de becas y facilitadora de instrucción. Mi esposo y yo tenemos 2 hijas y un perro. Me encanta estar al aire libre, viajar y pasar tiempo con la gente. ¡Espero conocerlos a todos!

Trabajadora Social – Vicky Shoemaker

Mi nombre es Vicky y me siento honrada de unirme a la comunidad de Edgemont. He sido una trabajadora social por más de 20 años con un enfoque en la salud mental. Crecí en Holladay, Utah y obtuve mi licenciatura en la Universidad de Utah. Obtuve mi maestría en trabajo social en la Universidad de Minnesota en Minneapolis. Disfruté de la exploración de los lagos en Minnesota, pero extrañaba las montañas y regresé a Utah. Mi marido y yo tenemos una familia mixta de 5 hijos y 2 nietos. También tenemos un perro y un gato que son los mejores amigos. En mi tiempo libre me encantan los viajes por carretera y las visitas turísticas, los paseos por la montaña y pasar tiempo con la familia y los amigos. También me gusta leer, ver películas y escuchar podcasts.

Psicóloga escolar- Kathy Donahey

¡Estoy trabajando en Edgemont este año como la psicóloga de la escuela y estoy emocionada de estar aquí! Mi trabajo es apoyar el éxito de los estudiantes en todo lo que necesiten y ayudar a que la escuela sea un lugar mejor. ¡Actualmente estoy terminando mis estudios en BYU y me encanta pasar tiempo afuera o probar nuevas recetas!

Enfermera de la escuela – Emily Finch

Nací y me crié en Elkridge Utah. Ahora vivo en Springville con mi esposo y mis 3 hijos. He sido enfermera durante 11 años. Soy una firme creyente en el poder de la atención plena …. ¡un gran libro para colorear y lápices de colores hacen que un mal día sea bueno y un buen día sea genial!

Mi nombre es Alyssa Johnson. Me casé con mi mejor amigo Tanner a principios de 2022 y estoy absolutamente amando mi vida de recién casada. Mi esposo y yo amamos viajar, jugar juegos y pasar tiempo con la familia. Me gradué a principios de este año de BYU-Idaho con una licenciatura en Trabajo Social y me encanta estar cerca de los niños. Soy más feliz cuando estoy al aire libre, ya sea jugando al pickleball, navegando, nadando, o simplemente tumbado al sol. Soy extrovertida, alegre y me encanta conocer gente nueva, así que asegúrese de pasar y presentarse cuando me vea en la oficina.

Me encanta ayudar a los estudiantes a crecer y encontrar la alegría en el aprendizaje. No puedo esperar para este año escolar, ¡va a ser increíble!

Clase de STEAM de 1er grado – Lauren Reed

Mi nombre es Lauren Reed. Estoy muy emocionada de estar en Edgemont Elementary este año. Este será mi cuarto año enseñando el primer grado y me encanta. Un poco sobre mí es que soy de Cache Valley Utah, me encanta cultivar y arreglar flores, y mi cosa favorita es tocar música. ¡No puedo esperar a conocerte!

Soy de Francia y he sido maestra durante 16 años con varias experiencias en diferentes niveles de la escuela primaria y en la educación especializada. Me he graduado en la enseñanza del francés como segunda lengua y he acogido a muchos niños extranjeros en mi clase de 5º grado durante los últimos 8 años. También he desarrollado la enseñanza del inglés a través de otras asignaturas en Francia. ¡Este año estoy deseando enseñar el 1er grado en la Escuela Primaria Edgemont en Utah!

Clase STEAM de 2º grado – Susan Diamond

He vivido en Utah y Virginia. He enseñado a estudiantes desde preescolar hasta tercer grado, pero la mayor parte de mi viaje parece que siempre aterriza en el segundo grado.  ¡Debe ser mi favorito! Mi lugar de vacaciones favorito es Hawai. Me encanta leer, coleccionar libros para niños, la comida y crear formas de hacer que el aprendizaje sea emocionante.

Clase de inglés DLI de 5º grado – Maryann Phillips

Mi nombre es Maryann Phillips. Soy de Spokane, Washington. Tengo una licenciatura y una maestría en la enseñanza de inglés a hablantes de otros idiomas (TESOL). He estado enseñando inglés durante cuatro años y estoy muy emocionada de empezar a enseñar en la escuela primaria.

He estado trabajando como ayudante de lectura en el distrito durante el último año, y he estado haciendo todo tipo de trabajo con los niños durante los últimos 4 años. Me encanta el senderismo, el pickleball, explorar nuevos lugares, acurrucarse con un buen libro, y desafiar a cualquiera que cree que sabe más sobre Harry Potter que yo. Estoy deseando conocer a mis estudiantes y sus familias este otoño.

Ed. Especial – Michaela Swanson

Ayudante de Educación Especial- Brenda Hales

Soy originaria de Canadá y me encanta ir allí de visita. Me gradué de BYU en Educación de Salud Comunitaria hace muchos años. Estoy casada y tengo 3 hijos y una hija. Me gusta la vida al aire libre, especialmente acampar, hacer esquí acuático, montar en bicicleta de montaña y hacer senderismo. He trabajado durante los últimos 5 años como ayudante de educación física adaptada en todo el PSD.

Laboratorio Espacial – Annie Chase

He vivido en Arizona, Hawai, México, Chicago, Perú, Michigan y Washington DC, pero ahora llamo a Provo mi hogar. Mientras estuve en Chicago, trabajé durante años en el Museo de Historia de Chicago ayudando a investigadores de todas las edades y gestionando una enorme colección de manuscritos de décadas y siglos de antigüedad. En los últimos años, he dirigido clases de actividades STEAM y de artesanía para niños de edad primaria.

PE – Annie Lewis

¡Mi nombre es la Sra. Annie Lewis! Nací y me crié en la pequeña ciudad de Brigham City, UT. Recientemente me casé con mi esposo Tysen y nos encanta hacer hamacas, preparar deliciosa comida juntos y salir a caminar juntos. El baloncesto, el voleibol y el pickleball son mis deportes favoritos, ¡y siempre estoy dispuesta a ir a por una Coca-Cola Light! Me encantan los niños y ser activa. ¡No puedo esperar a ser la nueva profesora de educación física de Edgemont!

Custodia – Debbie Walker

Soy Debbie Walker. Crecí en el lado oeste de Provo y fui a la escuela secundaria de Provo. Después, fui a Snow College y recibí un título en Estudios del Hogar y la Familia. Después de que me gradué, regresé a casa a la dulce Provo y eventualmente me convertí en Asistente 3 que era de tiempo completo en Centennial Middle School. Aunque me encantaba trabajar con el personal y los profesores de Centennial, decidí solicitar el puesto de Edgemont cuando se abrió. Cuando me llamaron para decirme que había conseguido el trabajo, me quedé extasiada. ¡Pude tener nuevas oportunidades de aprendizaje y crear relaciones con más personas! ¡Como persona fuera de la escuela y el trabajo, disfruto de la lectura y me encanta escribir aún más! Me parece una pasión. Tener cualquier oportunidad de escribir me hace ser quien soy. En cuanto a las cosas que me gustan, me encanta salir con mis amigos y mi familia siempre que puedo. Creo que tener relaciones sólidas con la gente que te rodea es lo más importante en la vida.
